NEWBURYPORT - William “Billy” Sinclair Anderson, Sr., of Newburyport died Saturday, July 31, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, NH. He was 84.
Billy was born in Greenfield, MA to the late Samuel and Mary (Graves) Anderson. Raised in Greenfield, Billy graduated from Greenfield High School in 1955 and immediately joined the U.S. Army. He went on to Northeastern University where he studied engineering and using his degree worked as a civil engineer for many years at several major companies in the area.
Billy married Ruth Anderson (Holden, Dodge) in 1983 and they lived together in Waltham for over twenty years. Following her passing, Billy continued his retirement in Naples, FL.
Billy was incredibly involved in his churches, including the Robbins Memorial Congregational Church in Greenfield, the former Trinity Church in Waltham, and the Naples United Church of Christ in Naples. Even after moving back to Massachusetts to be with family, he continued to enjoy watching a livestream of church services every Sunday morning. Billy loved sharing jokes and funny stories with all and never failed to have a smile on his face.
Billy leaves behind his daughter, Katherine M. Langdo and her husband, Robert of Haverhill, MA; his son William S. Anderson, Jr. of Shallotte, NC, his son Derek S. Anderson and his fiancée, Maureen Cooper of Exeter, NH; his stepdaughter, Ruth A. Flynn and her husband Richard of Waltham, MA; his grandchildren, Rick and Tara Flynn, Gregory and Matthew Holden, Mary and Alan Langdo, Christopher Emond, Felicia, Leanna, Trevor and Dylan Anderson and Bridget Cooper; twelve amazing great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Ruth Anderson, he is predeceased by his sisters Margaret Robichaud and Ellen Schuab, and his brother in-law Joseph Robichaud.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 9, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Service will be Tuesday morning graveside with U.S. Army Honors in Mount Feake Cemetery, Prospect Street, Waltham at 11:00 AM.
