Sarah C. (Cruise) Broderick

HAVERHILL - Sarah C. (Cruise) Broderick, 91, of Bradford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 3, 2021.  

Sarah was born in Glenamaddy, County Galway, Ireland, daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah (Raftery) Cruise. Sarah was the second youngest of seven children in her family, she had one sister and five brothers. Her early years were full of happy memories of growing up on the family farm. She immigrated to the United States in 1952, and settled in Lawrence, MA where she worked at Associated Folding Box. She later worked for Western Electric until she got married and started a family. Sarah met her husband when he asked her to dance at a St. Patrick’s Day celebration. They enjoyed going to dances together from that day forward.

She married the love of her life, the late Cornelius Broderick in June, 1958. They had two children, Ann Marie and William. Sarah loved going to the beach, and for many summers their family vacationed at Salisbury and Hampton Beach. They also liked to go on camping trips in the White Mountains. One of Sarah’s favorite vacations was traveling with her family to Ireland.

Sarah liked to spend time in the kitchen making delicious food for her family, or simply making a cup of tea. Somehow, tea didn’t taste as good anywhere else. Her family will miss her cooking, but they will always have her recipes to remember her by. In her spare time she also liked to knit, sew, listen to music, and go dancing. In the days preceding her death, she was surrounded by her family and showered with their love and gratitude. Sarah’s smiling face and good sense of humor will be greatly missed by her loved ones. 

Her surviving family members include her children Ann Marie Aumais and her husband Richard and William Broderick and his wife Lisa; granddaughters Bridget, Sarah, Christine, Meaghan, Molly and Caitlin; sister of late Thomas, Daniel, Patrick, Michael and John Cruise and Mary Ellen (Cruise) Doyle; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 7, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 S. Main Street, Haverhill at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
