HAVERHILL - Phinnyva Chin So, 61, passed away from many medical conditions at Boston Medical Center on Friday, October 1, 2021.
She was born March 10, 1960 in Battambang, Cambodia and has endured many hardships in her life growing up. She had lost her mother at a very young age, witness her father die during the Khmer Rouge and survived the concentration camps in Cambodia. Her journey of hardships continued as she came to America undergoing domestic violence and dealing with finding her place in a foreign country. These hardships had tested her value of life but had also made her a strong, resilient big hearted little woman.
She fell in love with David Sokunthy So and they got married on July 19, 1991. Her favorite memory she loved to recollect was her marriage proposal on route 495 exit 47. The family couldn’t drive by that exit without her mentioning that story. This proposal and marriage meant a lot to her because she found her sense of security, protection and purpose in life, after enduring many hardships. 30 years strong, she was a wife, a mother to two beautiful daughters, and a grandmother to two handsome fur babies.
She had faced a lot more medical conditions during her time that had also tested her resilience and will to live. She had lost her ability to walk in 2017 and was bedridden due to an unknown cause. Even though she was going through a tough time, she always empathize with others who were struggling and always wanted to put them first. She just always had a big heart. Up until her death, she did not want her friends and family to mourn her loss because she felt like it wasn’t important. We want her to know that the roles she had played in life had created space in other people’s hearts. She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, an aunt, a cousin, a furbaby grandma, and a friend. Most importantly she was a woman with life, love, spirit, strength, and dignity. She will always be loved and remembered.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 3, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Cremation will follow. For guestbook, visit www.driscollcares.com
