BRADFORD - Nancy A. Barbeau of Bradford, passed away April 15, 2020 after a lengthy illness.
Nancy was born in Salem, MA, the daughter of Richard Fanning and Mary Wright Fanning. She attended Salem schools and graduated from Salem High in 1966.
Upon graduating from Marion Court College, Nancy began her career in medical transcription, working for local doctors and Hunt Hospital in Danvers. After moving to Haverhill, MA in 1977, Nancy worked for Pentucket Medical Associates, Lahey Clinic, Lawrence General Hospital and Hale Hospital. At one time, Nancy owned and operated her own medical transcription business, Sherwood Medical Transcription, which she ran for several years.
Nancy enjoyed reading and before her health problems was an avid runner and walker. She was diagnosed 20 years ago with Spinocerebellar Ataxia, a rare neurological disease that robbed her of her physical abilities and in her later years her mental abilities. Nancy never complained and loved her trips to Orlando with her sisters and her husband getting pushed around the parks in her wheelchair. She also loved her weeks at Lido Key in Sarasota, sitting by the beach and pool, visiting with her sister and friends from Ohio.
Nancy’s surviving family members include her devoted husband of almost 49 years, Richard Barbeau and two sons Alex and Aaron Barbeau of Bradford, both devoted caregivers until the end. She has a large family of siblings Beth Anderson and husband Joe of Dayton, OH, Tom Fanning and wife Jane of Pelham, MA, Eileen Sheehan of Dayton OH, Joan Shankle and husband Ed of Bolton, MA, Barbara Leach and husband Malcolm of Campton, NH and Jim Fanning of Dayton, OH. She was predeceased by her brother Patrick Fanning of Salem. Nancy had many nieces and nephews, just too many to name but all loved by her.
Because of the situation in the world, no services will be held at this time. A gathering of family and friends will occur on a later date. Donations may be made in her memory to the National Ataxia Foundation (NAF) at www.ataxia.org/donate. Arrangements by Driscoll Funeral Home, Haverhill.
