HAVERHILL - John McLean of Somerville, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 10, in Haverhill.
John was born on November 27, 1959, to the late George and Catherine McLean. He was the fourth of five children, after his older siblings George, Michael (deceased), and Diane and was followed by his younger brother Daniel (deceased). He is survived by his the aforementioned siblings George and Diane, as well as his four children Kaitlyn, Kristyn, Kourtney, and Sean. John was also a beloved grandfather of his nieces and nephews, including Kyleigh, Kierra, Connor, Shaylyn, Payton, and Emilia.
John will be remembered for many things including his witty sense of humor, kind heart, and love of both music and Boston sports, all of which were passed onto his children and grandchildren. Despite struggles with substance abuse and mental health, John was beloved by family and friends alike, and will be sadly missed by all of those whose lives he touched.
John loved his home city of Somerville, and felt it very important that part of him would always be there. With this in mind, the family will be holding a casting ceremony and small celebration of life at a later date in the city he so loved. Please stay tuned for more details.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage interested parties to donate to the SAFE Project, an organization devoted to addiction treatment, in John’s honor.
