HAVERHILL - Jerene (Bertrand) Rodriguez, 81, longtime Haverhill resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 16, 2021.

She was born Marie Jerene Bertrand on May 26, 1939, in Amesbury, MA. Daughter of the late Leon and Corinne (LeBlanc) Bertrand. Raised and educated in Amesbury. She was the cherished wife of the late Paul Rodriguez, M.D.

Jerene received her training as a Registered Nurse at St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Brighton, MA in 1960. Her nursing career included working as a Nursing Instructor at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital from 1960-1962; Operating Room Head Nurse at St. Margaret’s Hospital, Dorchester from 1962-1964 and Staff Nurse at Metropolitan Hospital in New York City from 1964-1965. She then married her husband Dr. Paul Rodriguez of over 50 years until his passing in 2016. They raised their family together in the Bradford section of Haverhill. She was a woman of great faith and longtime communicant of Sacred Hearts Church in Bradford serving as a Eucharistic Minister. She also spoke at various schools on deaf culture and sign language.

Her surviving family members include her loving children Mark Rodriguez of Danvers, Maria Ouellette and husband David of Haverhill, Matthew Rodriguez and wife Renee of CA and Andrew Rodriguez and wife Sandra of Germany; grandchildren Renee, Daniel, Gabriela, Sebastian and Lorenzo; several great-grandchildren; siblings Rochelle Justin of NH and Paul Bertrand of Newburyport; and many close friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday morning, May 21, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 S. Main Street, Haverhill at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
