Geraldine L. (Swedler) Moran

HAVERHILL - Geraldine (Geri) L. Moran, 88, from North Andover and formerly of Bradford, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2020, peacefully at home, surrounded by family after a long battle with COPD.

Geri was born on July 19, 1932 in Toledo, OH and was the daughter of the late Irving Swedler and Gladys (Williams) Knapp, and was predeceased by her brother Capt. Richard I. Knapp, U.S. Navy.

Geri graduated from Haverhill High in 1948, after graduating she went on to a secretarial / business school in Boston. Geri started her career working as a secretary at Bell Labs, after which she left to start a family. When Geri returned to the workforce she was a waitress for 35 years at restaurants that included The Bradford Barn in Bradford, Kelly's Oyster and Steak House in North Reading, Kernwood at Lynnfield in Lynnfield and Jimmy's III in Haverhill. After her waitressing years, Geri worked as a medical receptionist for Dr. John Santo in Merrimac and New England Foot and Ankle in Newburyport until she retired in 2008.

One of Geri's favorite past times was reading. She loved to read, a couple of her favorite authors were James Patterson and Mary Burton. Geri loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, loved to play 45's, Gin, Scrabble and was an avid golfer. In addition Geri was a big sports fan and would cheer on the Pats, Bruins and Red Sox. She also enjoyed going to the beach and riding the waves on floats and loved taking trips to Foxwoods, Atlantic City and Vegas.

Geri was a devout Catholic, who helped out when she could at Sacred Hearts making lunches and other charitable activities.

Her surviving family members include her son William E. Moran, Jr. and wife Tammy, of Somersworth, NH, loving daughter Paula J. Moran of North Andover, loving daughter Jane F. Moran, Riverview, FL and son John T. Moran and wife Stacey, Nantucket; 12 grandchildren Lori O'Connell, Hampton, NH, Taryn Mirandette and wife Carolyn, Kayleigh Carleton and husband Nickolas of Riverview, FL, Samantha Mirandette of Riverview, FL, Kevin Moran of Portland, ME, Marissa Newton and husband Matthew of Arnola, MD, Alexa Moran and fiancé Zach Coyne of Marshfield, Jack Moran of Nantucket, Michael Moran and wife Katie of Auburn, NH, William J. Moran and wife Allyson of Windham, NH, Kelly Moran of FL and the late Max Moran; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog Charlie.

Catholic Funeral Rites will be privately held and she will be laid to rest in St. James Cemetery, Haverhill. Contributions may be made in Geri’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial Giving, 500 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or through www.stjude.org
