HAVERHILL - Claire E. (Brochu) Longton, 87, of Haverhill, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 22, 2022.
Born in Uxbridge, MA on March 4, 1935. Daughter of Joseph and Irene Brochu. Raised in Uxbridge and graduated from Uxbridge High School, class of 1952. She worked at Pelland Bros. and married A. Courtney Longton in 1954. They moved to New Jersey for a brief period, before settling in North Andover, MA. They resided there for 30 years and were parishioners of St. Michael Parish. Claire had a strong commitment to her faith and church.
She was a very dedicated wife and mother, homemaker and very skilled with all handwork crochet, knitting, embroidery as well as an excellent seamstress (clothing). She loved music, singing and had choir experience while in Uxbridge. After Courtney's retirement they moved to Haverhill in 1987 and became members of Sacred Hearts Parish.
Claire was very dedicated to raising her children and to her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren whom she loved and cherished. She traveled regularly to see her out of state grandchildren as often as possible. In 2018 Claire moved to the Wingate where she received tremendous care. She participated in many activities within the building including the knitting group, group exercise, social hours, holiday celebrations and local trips. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her there.
She is survived by her very loving husband of 68 years, A. Courtney Longton; children David Longton and his wife Jan Yang, Alan Longton and his wife Mary Jo MacLean and Cynthia Norris and husband Kelly Norris; siblings Richard Brochu, Roland Brochu, Ernest Brochu and Lorraine Duso; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Deceased family members include her daughter Karen Hamilton; siblings Henry Brochu, Germaine Kloczkowski and Rita Radzik.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 S. Main Street, Haverhill at 1:30 PM.
