GROVELAND - Cathy (Martz) Scanlon, 75, of Groveland passed away peacefully with her devoted husband, Jim, by her side. She and Jim were inseparable for 35 happy years of marriage.
Born in North Huntingdon, PA, Cathy was the daughter of the late John “Jack” and Helen (Goga) Martz. A graduate of Boston University, Cathy shattered glass ceilings as one of the first women to ascend to the executive suite in the tech industry. Open to new challenges, Cathy’s career leading tech project management for companies including Teradyne, Digital Equipment Corp. and CMGI took her from Pittsburgh to Montreal and eventually to Massachusetts.
A charismatic and compassionate person, Cathy was committed to helping others. She spent the early years of her career teaching computer coding to blind students at a tech training school. She was active in the Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was an outreach ambassador providing meals and comfort to homebound elders.
Cathy met the love of her life, Jim, while working at Digital Equipment Corp. Together they created many fond memories vacationing on the seacoasts of Maine, Florida and Sorrento, Italy, enjoying Broadway shows in New York City, cheering on the New England Patriots, and hosting fun gatherings for family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Cathy is survived by her stepdaughters and spouses, Stephanie and Michael Lee of Groveland and Sharon Scanlon and David Vaida of North Reading. She was a proud Nana to six grandchildren Bobby, Sydney, Sara, Jack, Olivia and Brandon.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 13, in the Driscoll Funeral Home from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Services will begin at 12:00 PM. Private interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery, Groveland.
