HAVERHILL - Anthony ‘Tony’ M. Zmetrovich, 87, died January 26th peacefully after a short illness.
Born on November 30, 1936 in Haverhill, he is the son of the late Victor and Natalie (Yuska) Zmitrowicz.
Except for his time in military service, he lived his entire life in Haverhill. He graduated from Haverhill High School in 1955 and proudly served in the United States Air Force after high school. In the Air Force he was stationed in Nevada and Japan. Following his military service, he worked his entire career until retirement in North Andover at Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies.
Tony was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He followed the progress of his son’s golf career and later his grandchildren’s swimming career with great interest and support. He was an avid sports fan of all the Boston and New England sports teams especially the Red Sox. For decades he would go to Friday night Red Sox home games with his late father in law Joseph Leschensky and his kids.
Tony is survived by his wife Patricia (Leschensky) whom he was married to for 61 years and his daughter Lynne Johnston of Haverhill; his son Michael and his wife Holly of Marblehead and their children Sophie of Boston and Oliver of New York, New York.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to be make to The Jimmy Fund. For guestbook, visit www.driscollcares.com
